PGS. PIANO GRAPHIC SIMULATOR. Synesthetic instrument
PIANO GRAPHIC SIMULATOR
PGS is a technological system consisting basically of a MIDI keyboard with 88 keys, audio, a HD projector/monitor
and an Intel NUC i7-7567U computer. It is a mechanism created to generate graphic simulations from the sound of the
keyboard based on a previously established code, with the aim of making this relationship between both perceptions
more immediate and tangible.
As a graphic element, a vectorial module has been drawn to represent the piano. It changes its position, size,
luminosity and tonality in relation to specific patterns and dynamics, to behave graphically in one way or another
depending on the keyboard performance.
For example, in the case of pitch, the Hertzian relationship between light and sound has been taken as a link between
both of them to generate a picture of chromatic equivalences with all the keys of the piano.
The implementation of the interactive system has been carried out by one of the best independent programmers and
researchers in the field of digital art in our country, Emanuele Mazza. For its development, he has used a programming
language that is used to design most of the existing software called C++.
